Across the world there are many cultures who have a Spring celebration to commemorate the survival of the winter. This is often accompanied by a belief that the barrier between the spiritual and the physical thins. This also frequently is accompanied by a fire. In the Celtic tradition this is called Beltane and is currently associated with a fire festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
All cultures also have a version of the Fae. In the Celt tradition we see the idea of the Fairie. In the Greek we have Dryads, Naiads, Muses, and similar creatures. The Middle East has its Djinn. The Far East has the Spirits. The North Americans have Puckwudgies, Spider Woman and others. The idea is that the mythological creatures that exists in the forests and wilderness, are all from the "other Realm" and Beltane Fantasy festival is intended to be a celebration of this.
Each year we will focus on a specific part of the world. The last two years we have focused on the Celtic Isles. This year the "portal" is moving. Our cast will be portraying a more Germanic idea of the Fae. If you are interested on joining our fun, you are welcome to decorate or costume yourself in a fantastical way. You are not held to Germanic traditions, but if you wish to the easiest way to think about it would be looking at the Brothers Grimm and their tales.
